Crunchyroll Posts Usagi Drop Anime Banner (Updated)

posted on by Egan Loo
Anime to premiere in Japan on July 7

The media-distribution website Crunchyroll has posted an English banner for the Usagi Drop television anime series on its website, although it has not yet announced its titles for the Summer 2011 season. Clicking on the backdrop takes you to a "http://www.crunchyroll.com/usagi-drop" URL, however, currently that website gives an error message stating: "Document not found, sorry!" The anime will premiere in Japan on July 7.

Usagi Drop, from animation studio Production I.G, adapts Yumi Unita's Usagi Drop (Bunny Drop) slice-of-life manga.

In the story, 30-year-old bachelor Daikichi (Hiroshi Tsuchida) discovers a little girl named Rin (Ayu Matsuura) in his grandfather's garden while at his grandfather's funeral. Rin is the unwanted 6-year-old daughter of Daikichi's grandfather, and Daikichi decides to take her in when no one in the family accepts the responsibility.

The Bunny Drop manga began in 2006, and the eighth compiled book volume shipped last October. Yen Press published the third manga volume in North America in March, and the title was nominated for this year's Eisner Awards. A live-action film version will open in Japan on August 20 with director Sabu, lead actor Ken'ichi Matsuyama (Death Note, Detroit Metal City, Gantz), and lead actress Mana Ashida.

Update: URL information, background information added.
