GTO: Shonan 14 Days Sequel Manga to End in Japan

3 chapters left in 9-book series; Tohru Fujisawa indicates plans for Sakaki twins

Manga creator Tohru Fujisawa revealed on August 17 that he has three chapters left in his GTO: Shonan 14 Days sequel series. Fujisawa already drew the final page of the series, and he posted the draft on his blog. GTO: Shonan 14 Days will have a total of nine compiled book volumes. The story follows a former biker named Onizuka who becomes a teacher and a mentor to kids.

After he finishes GTO: Shonan 14 Days, Fujisawa will do his usual cleanup work on the final volume's artwork. He also indicated that after GTO: Shonan 14 Days, he will do a school action story with two characters from that manga, the twins Riko and Miko Sakaki.

GTO: Shonan 14 Days serves as the sequel to Fujisawa's original Great Teacher Onizuka (GTO) manga series. Fujisawa launched GTO in Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine in 1997, and Kodansha released 25 volumes through 2002. Tokyopop published GTO in North America.

In 2009, Fujisawa returned to the character of Onizuka with Shonan 14 DAYS. Kodansha will publish the seventh compiled volume of Shonan 14 DAYS next month.

Vertical announced in May that it licensed both GTO: Shonan 14 Days and Shōnan Junai-gumi (the predecessor to Great Teacher Onizuka) for North America.
