Ai Ore! Manga's Film Headlined by Karam of K-Pop's DGNA

Korean pop group member joined by actress Ito Ōno in shōjo romance

The entertainment news source Oricon reported on Friday that the DGNA Korean pop group member Karam will star in the live-action adaptation of Mayu Shinjo's Ai Ore! Love Me! (Ai o Utau yori Ore ni Oborero!) manga. This will be the performer's first starring role in a film.

Karam will play Akira Shiraishi, the male “princess” of an all-boys school, in the shōjo romance. The actress Ito Ōno will play Mizuki Sakurazaka, the female “prince” of her all-girls school and the lead guitarist in an all-girl rock band. In the manga's story, Akira wants to join Mizuki's band Blaue Rosen when the band's lead singer moves overseas, but first he has to overcome Mizuki's suspicious misgivings.

The manga launched in Shogakukan's Shōjo Comic (now named Sho-Comi) under the title Ai o Utau yori Ore ni Oborero! However, the manga then moved to Kadokawa's Monthly Asuka magazine, and thus Shinjo changed its title. The first arc of the manga ended, and the series is currently on hiatus.

Viz Media confirmed last August that it licensed Shinjo's original Ai o Utau yori Ore ni Oborero! manga as well as the Ai-Ore! Danshikō no Hime to Joshikō no Ōji sequel. The company released the third volume of Ai Ore on November 1. Viz also publishes Shinjo's Sensual Phrase manga.

Ai o Utau yori Ore ni Oboreru! is now in post-production, and it will open in Japan this year.
