Moonlight Mile Creator Featured on English NHK World TV Show

posted on by Jennifer Sherman
Manga author Yasuo Ohtagaki to appear on imagine-nation on Tuesday

The current episode of imagine-nation, an English-language program shown on the international broadcast service NHK World TV, will feature the Moonlight Mile manga and its creator Yasuo Ohtagaki. The episode will air at 6:30 p.m. EST on Tuesday and repeat five times on Wednesday.

The imagine-nation program covers comics, anime, and games with features such as interviews and top rankings. NHK lists the available ways that viewers outside Japan can watch NHK World, and NHK's own website streams NHK World.

The next episode includes an interview with Ohtagaki in his studio. NHK notes that Ohtagaki began studying manga under the creator Akira Oze (Natsuko no Sake) when he was 19. Ohtagaki launched Moonlight Mile in Shogakukan's Big Comic Superior magazine in 2000, and the series' 23rd compiled volume shipped in Japan on January 30. The science-fiction manga went on hiatus in November because the Ohtagaki is creating a "big project" this spring. The manga inspired the 2007 television anime that ADV Films (and later FUNimation Entertainment) released in North America. Ohtakgaki will launch a Gundam manga mini-series in Big Comic Superior in March.

The next imagine-nation installment will also interview animation director Ayaka Nakata ("Cornelis," "The Needlework Room of Grandma"). In November, the program ran an interview with The Prince of Tennis manga creator Takeshi Konomi.
