Master Keaton Manga to Get Sequel After 18 Years

posted on by Jennifer Sherman
Original detective series' Naoki Urasawa to launch Master Keaton Remaster this March

The wraparound jacket band on the 8th "complete edition" volume of Hokusei Katushika and Naoki Urasawa's Master Keaton manga revealed on Wednesday that the detective story will receive a sequel. Urasawa will return to draw Master Keaton Remaster with a story by Takashi Nagasaki (Monster, Pluto, Billy Bat). The new series will debut in Shogakukan's Big Comic Original on March 19, 18 years after the first manga concluded in the magazine.

The new manga will be set 20 years after the end of the original Master Keaton story. The series will again follow the half-Japanese, half-English father and multi-talented sleuth as he investigates more cases in Europe.

The first Master Keaton manga launched in Big Comic Original in 1988. The series inspired a television anime adaptation in 1998, and a original video anime (OVA) continuation in 2004. Geneon released the television series and OVA in North America.

Urasawa has been drawing his Billy Bat manga in Kodansha's Morning magazine since 2008. Nagasaki supervised and edited Urasawa's manga Monster, collaborated with the creator on Billy Bat, and produced Urasawa's Pluto. He also supervised the Monster television anime adaptation and planned the 20th Century Boys live-action film adaptation based on Urasawa's manga.
