Queen's Blade: Rebellion BDs/DVDs to Add Original Anime

posted on by Egan Loo
"Restriction-smashing" OVAs to be included in each of 6 volumes, starting in June

The Queen's Blade: Rebellion television anime's six Blu-ray Disc/DVD volumes will each include a Genkai Toppa de Miechau no!? original video anime (OVA) about a different character, starting the first volume on June 27. The name of the OVAs indicate that they will feature footage that "smashes through restrictions" and can only be seen in these bonus extras.

Each volume will also include a special CD (with audio dramas, soundtrack pieces, and other bonuses), a changing card, a card illustrated by Mikio Masuda, and a special item for the Queen's Blade The Conquest browser game. The first and fourth volumes will each come with a three-disc box illustrated by eiwa or Non Oda, the illustrators of the original Queen's Blade game books.

The television anime is set four years after the first Queen's Blade anime's storyline. Annelotte, who is played by voice actress Aya Endō, leads the army that stands up to the tyranny of the new queen.

The story originated in Hobby Japan's Queen's Blade fantasy game book franchise, which are Japanese spinoffs from Flying Buffalo's Lost Worlds game series. (In these games, players simulate turn-based fighting with books that each represent a character.) The Queen's Blade books also inspired the previous two television anime series and several original video anime volumes. The Rebellion storyline in particular already spawned two prologue original video anime DVDs that were bundled with the Queen's Blade Premium Visual Books.

A new director, Yousei Morino (I''s, Kakyūsei 2), is helming the third series at the studio ARMS, but Hideki Shirane is returning from Queen's Blade Utsukushiki Tōshi-tachi. Animation directors Takayuki Noguchi and Yukiko Ishibashi now join Rin-Sin on the character design duties.

The new series will premiere in Japan in April.
