IG Port Founds New Animation Planning and Production Subsidiary

posted on by Ko Ransom
Wit Studio co-owned by IG Port and two Production I.G producers

IG Port, the parent company of the anime studios Production I.G and Xebec, as well as the manga publisher Mag Garden, announced on Friday that they will found a new animation planning and production subsidiary named Wit Studio as of June 1. Two-thirds of the company will be owned by IG Port, while 21.6% will be owned by Production I.G producer Jōji Wada (Sengoku Basara - Samurai Kings, Kimi ni Todoke - From Me to You), and another 10% will be owned by Production I.G producer Tetsuya Nakatake (Guilty Crown, Usagi Drop). There are plans to make both men executives of the company, with Wada acting as its head.

IG Port was created when Production I.G, founded in 1987 as I.G Tatsunoko, restructured in 2007 in order to create the holding company structure the group now has. In 2010, IG Port acquired an 11.2% stake in the long-standing animation company Tatsunoko Production.
