Slayers/Ikki Tousen's Watanabe directs 25-minute anime based on children's gag manga

Kazutoshi Soyama's Dangerous Jii-san Ja children's gag manga will get a 25-minute original video anime in July. Sho-Pro will be producing the anime with J.C. Staff and Takashi Watanabe (Shakugan no Shana, Slayers, Ikki Tousen) will be directing the anime.

Soyama's "nonsense gag comedy" manga, which runs in Shogakukan's Coro Coro Comics magazine, revolves around the relationship between a grandfather and his grandchild. The OVA on DVD will be bundled with a special-edition issue of Coro Coro Comics on July 27 for 580 yen (about US$7.20).

Daiki Nakamura will star in the anime as Dangerous Grandpa, and Ayumi Tsunematsu will play the grandchild. Shigeru Chiba will play the principal and Tetsuharu Ohta will play Gebe. Hyadain (Kuroko's Basketball, My Ordinary Life), along with Nakamura and Tsunematsu, will sing the theme song "Dangerous Jii-san Ai no Uta."

The original Dangerous Jii-san manga was adapted into the 51-episode Zettai Zetsumei: Denjarasu Jii-san television anime series in 2004-2005. Viz Media licensed the anime under the name Grandpa Danger in 2006 but never released it on home video.
