Salary docked after suspect allegedly recorded film 3 times to watch at home

Police in Fukushima Prefecture announced on Thursday that they charged a 38-year-old male expressway police sergeant on October 22 with violating Japan's Copyright Act. The suspect is accused of recording the anime film Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha the Movie 2nd A's in a theater. Due to the charges, the police disciplined the sergeant by reducing his salary by 1/10th for one month on Wednesday.

According to the investigators, the suspect recorded the film with a portable audio player and a digital camera on three occasions in July and August in theaters in Fujishima City and Sendai City. The suspect reportedly said that he recorded the film to watch in his own home.

According to the police, the theater staff witnessed the suspect setting up his camera in his seat at a Fukushima City theater on August 23.
