Attack on Titan Manga Prints 8.7 Million More After Anime

posted on by Egan Loo

The 10 volumes of Hajime Isayama's popular Attack on Titan manga now have over 20 million copies in print. The first nine volumes had over 10 million copies in print as of last December, but its popularity jumped even more after its television anime premiered in April. Bookstores began selling out, so about 8.7 million more copies were printed after the anime aired less than two month ago.

In addition, the manga's home magazine, Kodansha's Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine, watched the sales for its May issue rise about 30% compared to the previous issue. The May issue shipped on April 9, three days after the anime premiered. A source told the Mainichi Shimbun paper's Mantan Web site that Attack on Titan is "once-in-a-decade hit."

The manga had over 9 million copies as of the eighth volume last August, and 19.5 million as of the 10th volume's debut last month. All 10 volumes have regularly appeared in the top 40 of Oricon's weekly manga sales charts.
