Toaru Majutsu no Index's Accelerator Gets His Own Manga (Updated)

posted on by Karen Ressler
Toaru Kagaku no Accelerator to begin serialization this December

This year's October issue of ASCII Media Works' Monthly Comic Dengeki Daioh magazine, which shipped on Tuesday in Japan, announced that Toaru Majutsu no Index character Accelerator will star in a new manga series, Toaru Majutsu no Index Gaiden: Toaru Kagaku no Accelerator (A Certain Magical Index Side-Story: A Certain Scientific Accelerator). The manga will begin in next year's February issue of Dengeki Daioh, which ships on December 27. Newcomer Arata Yamaji will draw the side story.

Kazuma Kamachi launched the original Toaru Majutsu no Index light novel series in 2004 with illustrations by Kiyotaka Haimura. A manga adaptation by Chūya Kogino is running in Square Enix's Monthly Shonen Gangan magazine, and the manga spin-off Toaru Kagaku no Railgun (A Certain Scientific Railgun) by Motoi Fuyukawa is running in Dengeki Daioh. Both A Certain Magical Index and A Certain Scientific Railgun have been adapted into anime series that FUNimation Entertainment has licensed. Seven Seas Entertainment is releasing Fuyukawa's A Certain Scientific Railgun manga.

Update: ASCII Media Works lists that Arata Yamaji will draw the upcoming manga. Toaru Majutsu no Index light novel author Kazuma Kamachi is credited as the original creator, and both Yamaji and light novel illustrator Kiyotaka Haimura are credited as the character designers for the manga. The publisher is currently hosting a 25-page preview of the manga. Thanks, OH&S and MrTerrorist.
