Kids on the Slope's Kodama Draws 'Hōsekibako no Ningyo' 1-Shot Manga

Manga creator Yuki Kodama published her one-shot story "Hōsekibako no Ningyo" (Mermaid of the Jewel Box) on Shogakukan's Yawaraka Spirits website on Friday. The story is set on a rocky craig where mermaids live, and it follows the romance between a boy studying marine life and a mermaid. The story is the first in Yawaraka Spirits' series of one-shot stories and interviews by popular creators.
Kodama's award-winning Sakamichi no Apollon (Kids on the Slope) manga ended last year, although it spawned a five-chapter spinoff called Sakamichi no Apollon: Bonus Track. The manga inspired a television anime series on Fuji TV's late-night Noitamina programming block, and Crunchyroll streamed the anime into several countries as it aired in Japan.
Kodama launched an omnibus manga series called Tsukikage Baby last year.
