"New age of Kai" to cover Majin Buu Saga in Toriko's current timeslot

The April issue of Shueisha's V Jump magazine is announcing on Friday that a new Dragon Ball Kai anime series will premiere on Sunday, April 6 at 9:00 a.m. on Fuji TV. The "new age of Kai" will cover the Majin Buu Saga.

Dragon Ball Z Kai (known as just Dragon Ball Kai in Japan) condenses the 1989-1996 Dragon Ball Z anime series to more closely follow Akira Toriyama's Dragon Ball manga. The series features digital high-definition remastering, a re-recorded soundtrack, and select scenes updated with new effects or re-animated footage. The 2009-2011 run of Dragon Ball Z Kai covered from the Saiyan Saga to the Android Cell Saga.

That Sunday 9:00 a.m. time slot is currently held by Toriko. The Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods film will have its broadcast television premiere on Fuji TV on March 22 at 9:00 p.m.

In November, Australian anime distributor Madman Entertainment responded to a Facebook question about the Buu Saga in Dragon Ball Z Kai: "DBZ Kai buu Saga should be released sometime [in 2014]. We're just waiting on dubs etc to be finished."

Kyle Hebert and Sean Schemmel, the voice actors of Gohan and Goku respectively in Dragon Ball Z's English dub, reported last April that they were recording for the Buu Saga of Dragon Ball Z Kai.

The Japanese cast recorded new episodes in November 2012, after the series' original run in Japan in March 2011. Funimation released the series on Blu-ray Disc and DVD in North America. The American channel Nicktoons completed the first run of Funimation's English release in 2012 and removed the series from its schedule last April. The series is airing on Saban Brands and The CW's Vortexx (formerly Toonzai) programming block on Saturdays.
