Kino's Journey's Sigsawa Writes Sword Art Online Novel

Story stars new characters playing Gun Gale Online

Dengeki Bunko announced on Thursday that Kino no Tabi: The Beautiful World (Kino's Journey) author Keiichi Sigsawa will write a novel based on Reki Kawahara's Sword Art Online series. Kouhaku Kuroboshi (Kino's Journey original character designs) is illustrating and Kawahara is supervising the novel, Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online I: Squad Jam, which is slated to ship on December 10.

The story follows Karen Kohiruimaki, a 183-centimeter-tall (6-foot-tall) college student who's insecure her height, and is bad at dealing with people in the real world. She enters the world of Gun Gale Online with her avatar, Ren, who is less than 150 centimeters (5 feet) tall and wears all pink. She meets a beautiful, brown-skinned female player who goes by Pitohui. They hit it off, but one day Pitohui pressures her to participate in "Squad Jam," a team battle royale variation of the Bullet of Bullets tournament.

More details will be released with this year's 40th issue of Dengeki Bunko Magazine on October 10.

Sigsawa began serializing Kino's Journey in Dengeki HP in 2000. The novel was adapted into a 13-episode anime in 2003, and the movie premiered in 2005.
