A promotional video for the second season of the Tokyo Ghoul anime series began streaming on Saturday. The second season of the suspense horror/dark fantasy will premiere in January.

Whereas Ishida was credited with creating the original manga for the first season, Ishida is now also credited with the original story concept for the second season.

The first season and manga's story is set in Tokyo, which is haunted by mysterious "ghouls" who are devouring humans. People are gripped by the fear of these ghouls whose identities are masked in mystery. An ordinary college student named Kaneki encounters Rize, a girl who is an avid reader like him, at the café he frequents. Little does he realize that his fate will change overnight.

Ishida launched Tokyo Ghoul in Weekly Young Jump in 2011, and Shueisha will ship the 14th and final compiled volume on October 17. Viz will publish the manga in North America, and Funimation streamed the first anime season as it aired in Japan this past summer.

Ishida is launching the new Tokyo Ghoul:re manga in Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump magazine on Thursday with a change in the main lead character.

Shuhei Morita (Freedom, Kakurenbo), the Oscar-nominated director of the "Possessions" ("Tsukumo") short, directed the first season of the anime at Pierrot. Kazuhiro Miwa (animation director on EUREKA SEVEN AO, Gosick, Heroman) designed the characters, and playwright Chūji Mikasano (LDK) supervised and wrote the scripts. Noboru Haraguchi (Heroman, Gosick) is the sound director, and Yutaka Yamada (live-action Marumo no Okite, Hunter ~Sono Onna-tachi, Shōkinkasegi~) composed the music.
