Kodansha, Shogakukan, Media Do back new LINE subsidiary company

LINE Corp., operators of the voice-chat/messaging app LINE, announced on Wednesday that the company will head the launch of a new subsidiary, LINE Book Distribution, which is set to release manga internationally. LINE Book Distribution is a joint venture backed by publishers Kodansha and Shogakukan and e-book distribution company Media Do. LINE Book Distribution will release properties from the two publishers and other Japanese publishers in English and Traditional Chinese globally via the LINE Manga app.

Within Japan, the LINE Manga app currently holds more than 80,000 titles from more than 50 publishers and has more than 8 million accumulated downloads. LINE Corp. launched the LINE Manga app in Japan in April 2013.

LINE Corp. plans to launch the LINE Manga Global Version app later this year. The company will announce details as to the specific titles being released at a later time.
