Ichi the Killer's Yamamoto Launches Hikari-Man Manga

PC-modding hobbyist experiences strange phenomena in Hideo Yamamoto's latest

2015's combined 2nd/3rd issue of Shogakukan's Weekly Big Comic Spirits launched a new series called Hikari-Man by Hideo Yamamoto on Monday. The story follows Hikari Shirochi, an ordinary high school boy whose hobbies are games and PC-modding. In the first chapter, mysterious phenomena occur to his body, which conducts static electricity unusually well.

The magazine's website is posting a trial of the manga, and Comic Natalie is running an interview with Yamamoto. Yamamoto ended Homunculus in the same magazine in 2011, and the new series is his first since then.

Yamamoto created Homunculus, Ichi the Killer, Okama Hakusho, and Voyeur manga. Viz Media published Voyeur and Voyeurs, Inc. manga in North America, while Ichi the Killer inspired several controversial live-action adaptations and an original video anime. Cult-favorite-turned-mainstream director Takashi Miike oversaw the Ichi the Killer film that Media Blasters released in America, and he also made a voice cameo in the Ichi The Killer: Episode 0 anime that Central Park Media's U.S. Manga Corps distributed.
