Mushishi: The Next Chapter Gets Film in Early Summer

posted on by Egan Loo
Special compilation of main manga's last arc "Suzu no Shizuku"

The Mushishi: The Next Chapter anime's television broadcast ended on Sunday with an announcement that the Mushishi: The Next Chapter's Suzu no Shizuku arc will play in theaters early in Summer 2015. The film will be a special compilation of "Suzu no Shizuku," which was the last two-chapter arc in the main manga series.

The anime's website lists a sixth Blu-ray Disc, but without a release date or information on its contents. The television broadcast ended with episode 20 "Tokoshie no Ki" (Tree of Eternity), but the fifth Blu-ray Disc will ship on March 25 with episodes 15-18.

Yuki Urushibara began the original manga in 1995, and finished it in Kodansha's Monthly Afternoon magazine in 2008. Del Rey published the manga in North America, and Funimation released Hiroshi Nagahama and Artland's first anime and Katsuhiro Ōtomo's live-action film version.

Urushibara returned to the manga with a new special story arc last year. A one-hour Mushishi Tokubetsu-hen: Hihamukage anime television special premiered in January, followed by the Mushishi: The Next Chapter anime in April. Crunchyroll and Daisuki have streamed Mushishi: The Next Chapter as it aired in Japan.

The manga is also inspiring a stage reading with the anime cast next March.
