Library Wars: Love & War Shōjo Manga Gets New Series in March

Kiiro Yumi's take on Hiro Arikawa's sci-fi novels that also inspired anime, live-action film

The February 2015 issue of Hakusensha's LaLa magazine is announcing on Wednesday that the Toshokan Sensō: Love & War Bessatsu-hen (Library Wars: Love & War Extra) manga series will launch in the May issue on March 24. Kiiro Yumi just ended the main Library Wars: Love & War manga in the same February 2015 issue.

The story of the main manga is set in a future version of Japan. A law threatens to clamp down on freedom of expression in 2019, and Iku Kasahara joins the Library Defense Force, a military unit dedicated to protecting books from being confiscated. However, she finds that the job of her childhood dreams is harder than she bargained for, especially with her hard-nosed instructor Atsushi Dōjō.

The new series will continue to follow the lives of Iku and Dōjō, as well as Tezuka, Shibasaki, Komaki, Marie, and others.

Yumi began serializing the first shōjo manga adaptation of Hiro Arikawa's Toshokan Sensō science-fiction novels in LaLa in 2007. Viz Media licensed the series for release in North America in 2009 and will ship the 13th volume in North America in April.

The light novels also inspired a television anime series and anime film. A live-action film version opened in theaters in Japan last year and then ran in festivals in the United States. A film sequel will open in Japan next October.
