Episodes to tie into this summer's new Ghost in the Shell movie

The Ghost in the Shell: Arise anime series will air on Japanese television under the title Ghost in the Shell Arise: Alternative Architecture, starting in April. The broadcast will recompile the four existing episodes and include two new episodes, to tie the series with the new Ghost in the Shell movie premiering this summer.

Ghost in the Shell: Arise was originally a four-part anime series, helmed by Kazuchika Kise at Production I.G and written by Tow Ubukata, that premiered on Japanese theaters from July 2013 to September 2014. It draws inspiration from Masamune Shirow's Ghost in the Shell manga. Funimation licensed the anime series for North America on June 2013, and released the first two episodes last October.

Series writer Tow Ubukata offered some comments on the new TV airing, saying that Shirow's original Ghost in the Shell manga was "not a classic sleeping in a museum, but a modern work that begged to be adapted for the screen." He stated that the TV airing will take into account the "peculiarities of the TV medium," and will answer "why the Section 9 members were brought together." In regards to the new summer 2015 movie, Ubukata said that it will "deal even more with the past and inner personality of Motoko." He also hopes that "with Ghost in the Shell: Arise - Alternative Architecture, I've created a new Ghost in the Shell work that can touch new people, as well as something that old fans of the manga, movies, and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex can enjoy."

The television broadcast will premiere on Tokyo MX on April 5, and then run on BS11 and other channels.
