Detective Conan Manga Goes on Hiatus Due to Creator's Surgery

Detective Conan (Case Closed) manga creator Gōshō Aoyama is announcing in this year's 16th issue of Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine on Wednesday that he has to put his serialization on an irregular schedule. He explained the sudden announcement by saying that he went to the hospital for an operation. He assured his fans that the surgery went as planned without incident, but he is staying in the hospital for a little while longer.
He is tentatively leaving the hospital around this summer and plans to return to his regular serialization then. He added that he has been playing Kan Colle during his hospital stay. (In the art below the note, Conan castigates Aoyama for playing games, and urges him to get better soon.)
Aoyama launched his manga in Weekly Shonen Sunday in 1994, and the manga inspired a popular ongoing television anime series in 1996. It also inspired a series of annual anime films, and the latest, Detective Conan: Sunflowers of Inferno, will open on April 18. Viz Media publishes the manga in North America.
Update: Aoyama declined to name the illness, citing his privacy. The manga will not run in the 17th issue on March 25, but whether it will run in the 18th issue has not been decided. The magazine will begin running previously published chapters in the 19th issue on April 8. Source: Oricon
