Detective Conan Manga Takes Break Until Early Summer

Shonen Sunday to republish previous chapters starting next week

This year's 27th issue of Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine is revealing on Wednesday that Gosho Aoyama's Detective Conan (Case Closed) manga is going on a break with plans to resume in early summer. Starting with the 28th issue, Shonen Sunday will start publication on the Meitantei Conan Fukkoku Rensai Series (Detective Conan Reissue Serialization Series) for the second time.

Aoyama had announced in March that he had to put his serialization on an irregular schedule. Aoyama explained that he had gone to the hospital for an operation. He assured his fans in March that the surgery went as planned without incident, but noted that he would be staying in the hospital for a little while longer, until this summer.

The magazine had once before started publishing previous chapters of the series under the title Meitantei Conan Fukkoku Rensai Series when Aoyama originally revealed his hospitalization in March.

Aoyama then resumed the series on May 13 with Shonen Sunday's 24th issue.

Aoyama launched his manga in Weekly Shonen Sunday in 1994, and the manga inspired a popular ongoing television anime series in 1996. The manga also inspired a series of annual anime films, and the 19th film, titled Detective Conan: Gōka no Himawari (Detective Conan: Sunflowers of Inferno), opened in Japan on April 18.

Viz Media publishes the manga in North America.
