Ghost in the Shell Arise Stage Play's Motoko Previewed in Costume

posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
Performance featuring 3D videos alongside cast opens in Tokyo in November

The official website for the Ghost in the Shell Arise: Ghost is Alive stage play revealed the first key visual on Monday featuring Kaede Aono as Motoko Kusanagai in costume.

The website also features more images of Aono in costume (see gallery below), and it is also streaming a commercial for the play that features the main cast outside of costume.

The show's main cast is as follows:

Kaede Aono as Motoko Kusanagi

Ikkyuu Juku as Daisuke Aramaki

Ren Yagami as Batou

Kentarō Kanesaki as Togusa

Tatsuya Isaka as Ishikawa

Katsuhiko Ibuka as Paz

Ryūnosuke Matsumura as Saito

Yutaka Matsuzaki as Borma

Shingo Takasaki as Ibachi

Asana Mamoru as Kurtz

Asami Yoshikawa as Saeed

Misaki Momose as Tsuda Ema

Keisuke Minami as Jose

Juku also provided the voice for the character of Aramaki in Ghost in the Shell Arise and the Kōkaku Kidōtai Shin Gekijō-ban film.

Shutaro Oku (Persona 3, Persona 4, Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena, Blood-C: The Last Mind stage plays) is directing the play, while Jun'ichi Fujisaku (scriptwriter for Blood-C, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex anime) is writing the scripts. Tow Ubukata (Ghost in the Shell Arise series composition, scripts) is serving as editorial supervisor.

The play will run at the Tokyo Geijutsu Gekijō Playhouse from November 5-15. Tickets go on sale on the e-plus website on August 25.

The play will also "for the first time in Japan" use 3D videos as part of the main performance, and will feature the cast acting alongside the videos to enhance the performance. Attendees will wear 3D glasses. (This year's One Piece Premiere Summer Show at Universal Studios Japan is also using 3D videos alongside the actors' performances.)

The Ghost in the Shell Arise OVA project included four episodes, the last of which premiered in Japan in August 2014. Funimation licensed all four episodes and released the first episode in a special imported edition in 2013, and then released all four episodes in North America last year.

A television broadcast of the four OVAs with two extra episodes premiered in Japan on April 5 under the title Ghost in the Shell: Arise Alternative Architecture. Funimation streamed Ghost in the Shell: Arise Alternative Architecture as it aired.

The Kōkaku Kidōtai Shin Gekijō-ban (Ghost in the Shell: The New Movie) film opened on June 20. Maaya Sakamoto and Cornelius performed the film's theme song "Mada Ugoku" (It Still Moves).
