Shochiku unveiled a teaser video on Monday announcing that Kozue Amano's Amanchu! manga will receive a television anime adaptation in summer 2016. The teaser shows the character designs for the characters Ōki Futaba and Hikari Kohinata.

Junichi Satō (Sailor Moon, Princess Tutu, Aria the Animation) is serving as chief director. Kenichi Kasai (Honey and Clover, Nodame Cantabile, Bakuman.) is directing the series at J.C. Staff, with scripts by Deko Akao (Yes! Precure 5, Arakawa Under the Bridge, Snow White with the Red Hair). Yōko Itō (Love Stage!!) is designing the characters.

Amano's manga follows the everyday lives of the members of a diving club in the city of Itō, in Shizuoka prefecture. The manga features the same high school and some of the characters from Amano's earlier Roman Club manga.

Amano launched Amanchu! in Mag Garden's Comic Blade magazine in November 2008 after having finished her best known manga, Aria, earlier that year. Mag Garden published the manga's ninth compiled book volume on February 10.

Shochiku also began streaming a new television commercial on Monday for Aria the Avvenire, the latest anime adaptation of Amano's Aria manga that celebrates the anime's 10th anniversary.

The anime opened in Japan on September 26 on 11 screens and ranked at #12 during the September 26-27 weekend.
