The judging committee of the 20th Animation Kobe Awards announced this year's award winners on Tuesday. The awards are among the most prestigious industry accolades in Japanese animation and media.

The 20th Annual Animation Kobe event will hold an awards ceremony on December 6 in the city of Kobe in western Japan. The judging committee is composed of experts in the industry — notably the editors of the anime magazines Animage, Newtype and Animedia. Most of the awards honor works released between September 2014 and July 2015. (The Special Award honors lifetime achievement, while the Theme Song Award honors a song released between July 2014 and June 2015.)

Previous winners have included Tsutomu Mizushima, Mamoru Hosoda, Kunio Katō, Mitsuo Iso, Hideaki Anno, Hayao Miyazaki, Isao Takahata, Hatsune Miku, the Precure franchise staff, Attack on Titan, The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya, Evangelion: 1.0 You Are [Not] Alone, Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2, Ghost in the Shell, Paprika, Princess Mononoke, K-ON!!, Eden of the East, Cowboy Bebop, Fullmetal Alchemist, Key the Metal Idol, Voices of a Distant Star, Melancholy of Haruhi-chan Suzumiya, Phantasy Star Online, Final Fantasy XI, Second Life, Fujiko F. Fujio, Leiji Matsumoto, and the theme songs to the Toaru Kagaku no Railgun, K-On! Fruits Basket, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya,, Macross Frontier, and Attack on Titan television series.

Last year's winners included Seiji Kishi, Kyoto Animation, Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie Part 3: Rebellion, Love Live! School idol project, and "Sidonia" by angela.
