Mr. Osomatsu Anime Gets Novel Adaptation, Smartphone Game, 3 Browser Games

The official website for the Mr. Osomatsu (Osomatsu-san) television anime series announced on Thursday that the series is getting a smartphone game adaptation (pictured at right) as well as three PC browser games. DLE and Churapps are developing the games.

Additionally, online retailer Amazon is listing a novel adaptation of the anime, slated for release on July 29. Yū Mitsuru is credited as the writer, with the anime's character designer Naoyuki Asano providing the illustrations. A limited edition of the novel will include two tin badges with an illustration of one of the Matsuno brothers, for a total of three sets.

The Osomatsu-san no Hesokuri Wars ~NEET no Kōbō~ (Mr. Osomatsu's Stash Wars ~A NEET's Offense and Defense~) smartphone game is a tower defense-like game where the Osomatsu sextuplets must protect their secret savings from Chibita, Dekapan, Iyami, and others. The game will include the anime's original voices, as well as new illustrations. The game will be free to play but will include optional in-game purchases.

The three browser game titles are titled Osomatsu-san no Black Kōjō (Mr. Osomatsu's Black Factory), Totoko ni Mitsugitai (Totoko's Tribute Corps), and Oshimatsu Quiz Battle (Support-Matsu Quiz Battle). All three games will be available on Yahoo!, and all will be free to play. The games will all debut in February or later. Osomatsu-san no Black Kōjō is based on the events from the anime's second episode where all six sextuplets work at a factory; Totoko ni Mitsugitai features the sextuplets delivering presents to Totoko, whom they all still idolize; and Oshimatsu Quiz Battle features a quiz based on each of the sextuplets' area of expertise (the example in the third image below asks "How do you write NEET in English?").

Idea Factory's Otomate brand — which develops otome romance simulation games intended for female players — is also developing a Mr. Osomatsu video game.

Fujio Akatsuka's original Osomatsu-kun manga and "high tension comedy" TV anime centered on the Matsuno household, which has six naughty and mischievous sons (who are sextuplets). All of the sextuplets, including the eldest Osomatsu, are all in love with the same girl, Totoko. The original series followed the family when the sons were 10 years old. The Mr. Osomatsu show re-imagines the original manga and TV anime with the sextuplets as adults.

The series premiered last October. Crunchyroll is streaming the series as it airs in Japan.

Akatsuka launched the Osomatsu-kun manga in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine in 1962, and the manga ran in the magazine until 1969. The manga then ran in Weekly Shonen King from 1972-1973, and then in Comic BonBon from 1987-1990. The compiled manga volumes have more than 10 million copies in print.
