Sunrise's Classicaloid Musical Action-Comedy Gets 1st Promo Video

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Broadcaster NHK began streaming the first promotional video for Sunrise's ClassicaLoid musical action-comedy television anime on Thursday. The video opens with a rendition of Beethoven's 6th Symphony "Pastoral."

The series' official website updated with additional staff members and announced the anime will air on Japanese TV this fall.

Yōichi Fujita (Gintama anime franchise, Mr. Osomatsu) is directing the anime at Sunrise. Makoto Tsuchibayashi (Sengoku Basara franchise) is serving as original character designer. Seiichi Hashimoto (Fusé: Memoirs of a Huntress) is adapting the character designs for animation. Chaika the Coffin Princess and Outbreak Company original creator Ichiro Sakaki and Michihiro Tsuchiya (PriPara, Cross Game) are overseeing the series' scripts by Miya Asakawa (Polar Bear's Café, Noein - to your other self), Tsuyoshi Kida (Bleach), Kyo Kogure (Satomi-chan Chino 8 Danshi light novels author), and Shū Matsubara (Mr. Osomatsu).

The series' is assigning "mujik" producers for composers within the series. Tomoyasu Hotei (Transformers live-action film) is producing for Beethoven, tofubeats is producing for Mozart, and Tsunku♂ (Hello! Project composer/lyricist) is producing for Bach.

NHK, NHK Enterprise, and BN Pictures are producing the series.

The story follows high school students Kanae and Sōsuke, who live in a provincial town that is trying to revitalize itself with music. One day, suddenly "ClassicaLoid" versions of Beethoven and Mozart appear in front of Kanae and Sōsuke. When the suspicious-looking Classicaloids play music they call "mujik," it has a strange power: stars start to fall, and giant robots appear. Now every day is tumultuous. Eventually, more Classicaloids start to appear such as Bach, Chopin, and Schubert. What is the great power that the Classicaloids have? Are they friends or foe to humanity?

The show's music will include pop, rock, techno, and other arrangements of famous classical works, arranged by well-known Japanese musicians. The official website states that the show will also feature "battles, slapstick comedy, heartwarming stories, and light love(?)."
