Netflix to Stream P.A. Works' Kuromukuro Anime Series Worldwide

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Netflix's stream begins on April 11 in Japan with new episodes every Monday

The official website of Kuromukuro, the 15th anniversary project of the anime studio P.A. Works, announced on Thursday that Netflix has exclusive worldwide streaming rights to the anime. Netflix will begin streaming the series in HD in Japan on April 11, four days after its Japanese premiere, and will stream new episodes every Monday. The website stated that it will stream the series in other countries at a later date, but did not give any other specifics about streaming debuts outside of Japan.

The anime will premiere on Thursday on Tokyo MX at 10:00 p.m., and it will also air on KBS Kyoto, Sun TV, BS11, and other channels.

Pony Canyon previously streamed a promotional video for the series, which previews MICHI's (Dagashi Kashi, Rokka: Braves of the Six Flowers) ending theme song "Really Stick," and rock band GLAY's opening theme song "Dystopia."

(Note: The below video is region-locked in some areas.)

Ponycan USA had promoted the anime at Seattle's Sakura-Con in March.

The anime itself will take place in Toyama prefecture (the location of P.A Works' studio), and will feature the Tate mountain range in the prefecture as well as other famous locales. The robot research institution in the show will be located near Toyama prefecture's famous Kurobe Dam. The anime's story takes place in summer 2016. During the original construction of the dam, an ancient artifact was discovered, and so the United Nations Kurobe Research Institute was established. Intellectuals from all over the world gathered to study the object, and the children of those researchers attend Mt. Tate International Senior High School, including the institute head's daughter, Yukina Shirahane. The story begins when a lone samurai once again awakens.
