Hulu Horror Series Crow's Blood's Teaser Show AKB48 Idols (Updated)

Saw series director Darren Lynn Bousman serves as executive producer on July series

Hulu Japan began streaming a teaser on Thursday for its upcoming Crow's Blood original mini-series. Darren Lynn Bousman (director and writer of Saw II, III, IV) is serving as executive producer on the series, Ryō Nishimura is directing the series, and American director of photography Joseph White will co-direct the first, second, and final episodes. The teaser previews the series' story.

The six-episode mini-series is set to premiere at the end of July.

AKB48 member Mayu Watanabe (right in picture below) and HKT48 member Sakura Miyawaki (left) star in the series. The mini-series' story is set at Dolly International Girls Academy, where inexplicable incidents begin happening one after another. Watanabe plays Kaori Isozaki, a kind-hearted high school student, while Miyawaki plays Maki Togawa, a mysterious and unsociable transfer student. Bousman said that the series' tone borrows from both western and American films as well as Japanese horror.

Hulu Japan describes the story:

20 years have passed since the first clone sheep Dolly was born.

With regenerative medical techniques evolutionally advancing over those years, regeneration of human organs, which was thought to be impossible, has become a reality.

While regeneration offers a broad range of possibilities, human beings are now trying to play God, to “re-create life.”

When we lose someone we love, are we allowed to regenerate their life or even bodies?

CROW'S BLOOD is AN Entertainment drama which aims to tackle this controversial subject.

It will be an ultimate horror/suspense drama with a mixture of love, blood and mystery taking place in modern Japanese society.

The series will also feature other AKB48 group members, as well as Japanese actors Tetsuya Bessho, Takahiro Miura, Tomoharu Hasegawa, and Tomohiro Kaku.

Update: Bousman told ANN that he is serving as executive producer on the series, and is not directing the series.

Update 2: Director information and plot summary added from press release.
