Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Anime Features Original Story

posted on by Jennifer Sherman
New Studio Pierrot anime premieres in April on Tokyo TV

This year's ninth issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine is announcing Monday that the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations television anime will begin with an original story. The issue also unveiled a new visual for the series. The adaptation of Ukyō Kodachi and Mikie Ikemoto's Boruto manga will premiere in April on TV Tokyo.

Crunchyroll began streaming a promotional video on Twitter with English subtitles in December.

The anime stars the following returning cast members:

Studio Pierrot will continue from Naruto Shippūden to animate the series. Naruto and Boruto manga creator Masashi Kishimoto said in December during the Jump Festa event about the new anime, "I plan to make it even better than Naruto."

Kodachi and Ikemoto launched the Boruto manga in Weekly Shonen Jump on May 9, based on and as a sequel to Masashi Kishimoto's Naruto manga. Boruto's titular main character is the protagonist of the Boruto -Naruto the Movie- anime film, and the manga has so far been an adaptation of that film.

The Boruto manga's second compiled volume shipped in Japan on December 2, and the manga volumes have more than 1 million copies in print.

Last year's Jump Special Anime Festa event screened a Boruto-related anime in theaters across Japan on November 27 and December 4.
