Crunchyroll announced on Monday that it will host writer Keiichi Sigsawa at this year's Crunchyroll Expo event. The convention will also host television personality Adam Savage, as well as the development team for the Dream Daddy dating simulator game.

Sigsawa is perhaps best known as the author of the Kino's Journey novel series that follows protagonist Kino and talking motorcycle Hermes as they travel through a mysterious world encountering towns with strange customs and stories. Sigsawa has written 20 volumes in the series so far. Sigsawa debuted the first novel in 2000, after his original short story was a finalist in the sixth Dengeki Novel Prize the previous year. The novels inspired a television anime series in 2003, and two anime films in 2005 and 2007. The novels are also inspiring a new television anime series in October, which Crunchyroll will stream. Sigsawa also wrote the Allison and Lillia and Treize novel series, both of which inspired the Allison & Lillia anime series. Sigsawa also writes the ongoing Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online light novel series spinoff of Reki Kawahara's Sword Art Online series.

Crunchyroll announced its plan to have its own convention after reaching 1 million subscribers in February. Crunchyroll Expo will be held on August 25-27 at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, California. Other announced guests include illustrator Yoshitaka Amano, animator Hiroshi Shimizu, figure skater Johnny Weir, and manga creator Kore Yamazaki.
