The Dragon Dentist Anime Gets Manga

posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
Yōko draws manga based on Studio Khara's 2-episode special

The September issue of Kadokawa's Monthly Comic Gene magazine revealed on Saturday that The Dragon Dentist anime will get a manga adaptation starting in the magazine's next issue on September 15. Yōko is drawing the series, and Otaro Maijo is credited with the original work.

The Dragon Dentist started out as the first anime short in Dwango and Studio Khara's Japan Anima(tor)'s Exhibition (Japan Animator Expo) project. The short then spawned a two-episode feature-length version that aired in Japanese on February 18 and February 25.

NHK World later aired and streamed the anime in March with an English dub.

Sentai Filmworks licensed the two-part television special and plans to release it digitally and on home video. The company describes the story:

Even mighty dragons can get cavities, and Nonoko has been newly assigned to protect the teeth of the guardian dragon of her country. One day, she discovers an enemy soldier resurrected from the inside of a dragon's tooth, a phenomenon which legend says foretells disaster. In a land ravaged by war, what does fate have in store for the dragon dentist Nonoko and her new “apprentice”?

The anime won the Best Animation award at the Magnolia Awards at the Shanghai TV Festival in June.
