Crunchyroll Expo Hosts Urahara Anime Staff

Crunchyroll announced on Tuesday that it will host the staff of the upcoming Urahara television anime adaptation of its PARK Harajuku: Crisis Team! webcomic, including illustrator Mugi Tanaka and director Amika Kubo. It also revealed that it will host YouTube animator Domics, YouTube series The Canipa Effect creator Callum May, as well as staff from Netflix's Castlevania animated series, including Powerhouse Animation CEO Brad Graeber and director Sam Deats.

Tanaka is an illustrator who has been creating original character illustrations for Harajuku's PARK shop for otaku goods and apparel. Tanaka illustrates the PARK Harajuku: Crisis Team! webcomic written by Crunchyroll News and Otaku USA magazine editor-in-chief Patrick Macias. The webcomic is inspiring a television anime titled Urahara, which premieres in October.

Kubo directs and animates short anime films. including "Bloomed Words," "WWF 100% RENEWABLE ENERGY," and "ONED," and also animates commercial animations and animated opening sequences for television programs and promotional videos. She is the CEO of Super Milk Cow, and the chief editor and founder of Japanese short animation website Tampen.jp.

Crunchyroll announced its plan to have its own convention after reaching 1 million subscribers in February. Crunchyroll Expo will be held on August 25-27 at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, California. Other announced guests include illustrator Yoshitaka Amano, animator Hiroshi Shimizu, figure skater Johnny Weir, manga creator Kore Yamazaki, writer Keiichi Sigsawa, voice actors Hiromi Igarashi and Shun Horie, Frederator Networks founder Fred Seibert, Fairly OddParents and Danny Phantom creator Butch Hartman, and MythBusters host Adam Savage.
