posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
11th stage play runs in Tokyo, Osaka in October

The official website for Yowamushi Pedal Shin Interhigh-hen Heat Up, the 11th stage play adaptation of Wataru Watanabe's Yowamushi Pedal (Yowapeda) cycling manga, revealed 10 new cast members for the play on Friday. The new cast members are:

  • Kousuke Kujirai as Junta Teshima
  • Ryō Yashima as Hajime Aoyagi
  • Takuya Kawarahada as Tōichirō Izumida
  • Jin Aoki as Yukinari Kuroda
  • Riki Tanimizu as Sangaku Manami
  • Kentarō Kanesaki as Masakiyo Tōbashi
  • Yūta Iiyama as Hayato Shinkai
  • Takeshi Hayashino as Akira Midōsuji
  • Kento Masui as Nobuyuki Mizuta
  • Shōgo Amō as Komari Kishigami

They will join previously announced cast members Kotarō Daigo as Sakamichi Onoda, Masanari Wada as Shunsuke Imaizumi, and Saku Momose as Shōkichi Naruko.

The play will run in Tokyo at The Galaxy Theatre from October 19-23, and in Osaka at the Mielparque Hall from October 26-29. Shatner Nishida is directing and writing the script, and manzo is composing the music.

The previous stage play ran at Osaka's Orix Theater on February 25-26, and at the Tokyo Dome City Hall on March 4-12.

The manga centers on Sakamichi Onoda, an otaku at Sōhoku High School. He loves anime and games so much that he would ride his commuter bicycle to and from Tokyo's Akihabara shopping district in a 90-kilometer (about 60-mile) round trip over steep slopes after school. Onoda's life changes when he encounters his school's cycling team, and he ends up joining the competitive sport of bicycle racing.

Wataru Watanabe launched the manga in Akita Shoten's Weekly Shōnen Champion magazine in 2008, and the story inspired three television anime adaptations. The third season premiered this past January and ended in June. The Spare Bike spinoff manga also received an anime adaptation with a two-week run in theaters last September. The manga has inspired two anime compilation films, as well as an anime film with an original story, the latter of which opened in August 2015. The manga will get a fourth season that will premiere in January, after the Yowamushi Pedal Re:Generation compilation film in October.

The manga's live-action television series adaptation, which contains much of the regular cast for the stage plays, premiered in August 2016. A sequel premiered on Friday.
