Ashita no Nadja Gets Sequel Novel Set 3 Years After Anime

Series writer Tomoko Konparu returns to write novel, character designer Kazuto Nakazawa draws cover art

Ashita no Nadja anime writer Tomoko Konparu announced earlier this month that she wrote an Ashita no Nadja sequel novel titled Ashita no Nadja - 16-sai no Tabidachi (Tomorrow's Nadja - A Journey at 16 Years Old). The book is slated for mid-September from Kodansha. Kazuto Nakazawa, the show's character designer, returned to draw the novel's cover art (seen right) and other illustrations.

The story is set three years after the main anime.

The original anime's story is set in the early 20th century, and centers on orphan girl named Nadja. On her 13th birthday, she receives a letter telling her that her mother is still alive, along with a package containing a dress and a diary written in a foreign language. After a pair of men attack the orphanage in search of her keepsake brooch, she makes her escape and joins a traveling artist troupe. Nadja journeys around Europe in search of her true lineage and destiny.

Toei Animation produced the 50-episode anime, and it premiered in 2003. A manga version of the story ran parallel with the anime. Yui Ayumi drew the manga, with story by Izumi Todo (a pseudonym for the Toei Animation staff).
