Main cast, staff return for series with new character Alien Guts

The official website for Tsuburaya Productions' Ultra Kaijū Gijinka Keikaku project announced on Thursday that the Kaijū Girls ~Ultra Kaijū Gijinka Keikaku~ series of anime shorts will get a second season that will premiere in January. The second season will air on television in Japan and stream on the dAnime Store (Docomo Anime Store) service.

The website also revealed that the second season will feature new characters. The first new character will be Guts Seijin (Alien Guts), who appeared in the 39th and 40th episodes of the Ultra Seven television series. The intelligent alien from the planet Guts can create illusions of herself, teleport, and become transparent.

The main cast and staff are returning from the first season. The first season of shorts will begin airing on Tokyo MX on October 3.

The anime shorts premiered via streaming in September, and Crunchyroll streamed the series worldwide outside of Asia. Crunchyroll describes the first season:

Humanity's battle of many years with the kaiju, giant monsters, has finally come to an end. Now that Earth has entered an age of peace, girls with the souls of kaiju have begun to appear, giving them the ability to transform into kaiju. They are known as the Kaiju Girls, and this is the powerful, transient, beautiful, and at times easygoing story of the strange fate these girls bear.

The anime is part of Tsuburaya Productions' Ultra Kaijū Gijinka Keikaku project, which transforms kaijū (monsters) from the Ultraman live-action special-effects series into cute, female anthropomorphized monsters. The project has four distinct versions. The "POP version" features character designs by POP, and has picture books and drama CDs, as well as the above-mentioned manga. The "Kadokawa version" includes the Ultra Kaijū Gijinka Keikaku Galaxy Days four-panel manga by Bakutendo, and the Kaijū Girls ~Ultra Kaijū Gijinka Keikaku~ anime shorts. The project also includes figures by Plex, and a "Kodansha version," which includes the Ultra Journey - Twin Tail Shōjo to Twin Tail na Boku manga.

Seven Seas Entertainment will release the first volume of Shun Kazakami and POP's Ultra Kaiju Anthropomorphic Project (Ultra Kaijū Gijinka Keikaku: feat. POP Comic code) manga on February 20, 2018.
