Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha ViVid Manga Ends, But New Series Begins

Mahō Shōjo Lyrical Nanoha Reflection THE COMICS launches on December 26

Manga artist Takuya Fujima announced last Friday that he and Masaki Tsuzuki's Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha ViVid will end in the December issue of Kadokawa's Comp Ace magazine on October 26. In addition, Tsuzuki and Fujima will launch a new manga titled Mahō Shōjo Lyrical Nanoha Reflection THE COMICS in Comp Ace's February 2018 issue on December 26.

The new manga's title mirrors the recent Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Reflection film. The manga's "THE COMICS" subtitle is shared with a number of manga in the Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha franchise, including Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha A's THE COMICS, Mahō Shōjo Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS The Comics, and Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Movie 1st The Comics, all of which supplemented their namesake material.

Mahō Shōjo Lyrical Nanoha Reflection THE COMICS will feature an original side story.

The Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha ViVid manga takes place four years after the JS incident in Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS, and stars Vivio Takamachi, a fourth-year elementary student at St. Hilde Academy of Magic. Vivio has learned to conjure her adult form and has received her own Device — named Sacred Heart — from Nanoha, and has promised Nanoha to never use either for mischief. Then a mysterious magical fighter appears and targets Vivio.

Tsuzuki and Fujima launched the manga in Comp Ace in May 2009. Kadokawa published the manga's 19th compiled book volume (seen right) on July 24. The manga inspired a television anime adaptation in April 2015, as well as the ViVid Strike! spinoff anime last October. Amazon streamed the series on its Amazon Prime Video service. Both series are the latest television anime in the franchise.

Tsuzuki's Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha franchise includes four television anime series, two anime films, and numerous spinoff manga.

Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Reflection opened in Japan on July 22. The project is planned as two films. The second film, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Detonation, will open in 2018.
