DARLING in the FRANXX Anime Video Reveals Story Teaser, January Premiere

posted on by Karen Ressler
New key visual revealed

The official Twitter account for Studio Trigger and A-1 Pictures' original science-fiction television anime DARLING in the FRANXX posted a new video and key visual on Thursday. The video teases the story and reveals that the anime will premiere in January 2018 on Tokyo MX, BS11, Tochigi TV, Gunma TV, ABC Asahi Broadcasting, and Mētele.

The text in the video reads:

This place is a "birdcage."
A place that's shut, a place that's regulated.
There is only one reason to live—
It's our battle.
For the the sake of our fathers; for the sake of someday flying away; for the sake of the world
For the sake of someday flying away—
But she (Zero Two) was different
Won't you be my Darling?

The visual shows Zero Two, one of the main characters.

Earlier videos introduced characters in pairs. Each pair has its own "Franxx," the show's type of woman-shaped robot. The characters are as follows:

Code:016 "Hiro" and Code:002 "Zero Two" with their Franxx named Strelizia

Code:015 "Ichigo" and Code:056 "Goro" with their Franxx named Delphinium

Code:390 "Miku" and Code:666 "Zorome" with their Franxx named Argentea

Code:556 "Kokoro" and Code:214 "Futoshi" with their Franxx named Genista

Code:196 "Ikuno" and Code:326 "Mitsuru" with their Franxx named Chlorophytum

Atsushi Nishigori (The IDOLM@STER, character designer for Gurren Lagann) is directing the series, and Toshifumi Akai (chief animation director for Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic, Sound of the Sky) is assistant director. Nishigori and Naotaka Hayashi (director for Girl Friend BETA, Morita-san wa Mukuchi) are in charge of series composition. Masayoshi Tanaka (anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day, Highschool of the Dead) is designing the characters and is chief animation director. Shigeto Koyama (Michiko & Hatchin, Ancien and the Magic Tablet) is providing the mechanical designs. Hiroyuki Imaishi (director of Gurren Lagann, Kill la Kill) is supervising the action.

Studio Trigger announced the anime at its Anime Expo panel this year. A-1 Pictures' Hiroyuki Shimizu is involved with the project and appeared on stage during the panel.
