Chiruran: Shinsengumi Requiem's Shinya Umemura Launches New Manga

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Shūmatsu no Walküre centers on battle between gods, humans to decide humanity's fate

The December issue of Tokuma Shoten's Comic Zenon magazine revealed on Wednesday that Shinya Umemura is launching a new manga series titled Shūmatsu no Walküre (Valkyrie of the End) with Ajichika and Takumi Fukui. Umemura is writing the story, while Ajichika is drawing the art. Fukui is credited for composition. The manga will launch in the magazine's next issue on November 25, and the first chapter will have 71 pages.

The story begins when the gods call a convention to decide the whether to let humanity live or die, and settle on destroying humanity. But a lone valkyrie puts forward a suggestion to let the gods and humanity fight one last battle, as a last hope for humanity's continued survival. 13 gods will fight against 13 human champions in one-on-one battles to decide whether humanity lives or dies.

Umemura also provides the story for the Chiruran: Shinsengumi Chinkon-ka (Chiruran: Shinsengumi Requiem) manga, with Eiji Hashimoto drawing the art. The duo launched the series in the inaugural issue of Comic Zenon magazine in 2010. They launched a comedy spinoff manga titled Chiruran Nibun no Ichi in the magazine in May 2016. The spinoff manga received an anime adaptation that premiered in January, and Crunchyroll streamed the series under the title Chiruran 1/2 as it aired.
