Attack on Titan Season 3 Premieres in July After January Compilation Film

The "'Shingeki no Kyojin' Reading & Live Event Orchestra 'Attack Oto Taikan 2'" event in Tokyo announced on Sunday that the Attack on Titan anime franchise is getting a new compilation film on January 13, 2018, with the planned third season then premiering in July 2018.

The film is subtitled "Kakusei no Hōkō" (The Roar of Awakening), and it is a compilation film of the show's second season. Original manga creator Hajime Isayama is drawing an illustration for a bonus item for film attendees.

The staff also revealed a key visual for the anime's third season, which features Kenny. The anime's official website confirms that most of the second season's staff and cast are returning for the third season, although the new season does not list Ayumi Yamada as a chief animation director.

The official Twitter account for the anime franchise also revealed on Sunday that there will be a new Attack on Titan-themed real escape game that will take place at five ZEPP concert halls in Japan starting in December and running through March.

The final episode of the anime's second season revealed in June that the anime was getting a third season in 2018.

The 12-episode second season premiered in Japan on April 1. Funimation began streaming a simulcast version on the same day, and Crunchyroll also streamed the series. The English dub of the second season premiered on Adult Swim's Toonami programming block and on Funimation's streaming service in April.

The first 25-episode series in 2013 also inspired two compilation films. Attack on Titan Part 1 – Guren no Yumiya premiered in November 2014, and Attack on Titan Part 2 – Jiyuu no Tsubasa premiered in June 2015. The second film added new ending footage that linked the film to the second season. Funimation screened the films in the United States in March.

Crunchyroll streamed the first season as it aired in Japan, and Funimation released the series on home video in 2014.
