The List
6 Inseparable Sisters

by Lynzee Loveridge,

Sisters are best friends that never leave. You either have a little sister that wears your clothes without permission and follows you around everywhere, or an older one who can do no wrong (or both, if there's three of you). Childhood with a sister can be rough in that regard, but those are the unique experiences that forge the strongest sibling bonds.

6. The Paper Sisters (Read or Die TV) Anita King, Maggie Mui, Michelle Cheung are three sisters from Hong Kong who run the "Three Sisters Detective Agency." The girls, who all possess varying abilities to control paper, play to each others strengths to round out an effective team. Michelle works as the research specialist, Maggie is the strong arm, and Anita is the close-combat specialist and more level-headed. Separated, their weaknesses show but together they're unstoppable.

5. Tendo Sisters (Ranma 1/2) Kasumi, Nabiki, and Akane seem so wildly different, its hard to believe they're related. Kasumi is motherly and kind and is originally a role-model for the spitfire Akane. Nabiki, ever the modern businesswoman, is happy conniving ways to make a quick buck. Despite their very different personalities, all three rely on one another when in a pinch. Kasumi's quiet attentiveness has picked up on supernatural phenomena more than once and Nabiki's down-to-Earth observations amid the chaos are also helpful, if she's not lying.

4. Karen and Tsukihi Araragi (Monogatari series) Karen and Tsukihi are Koyomi's younger sisters and responsible for the episode previews in Monogatari. The "Fire Sisters" have a reputation around their middle school, Karen for her self-proclaimed hero status and Tsukihi for her short-temper. Their status as "fire sisters" has multiple meaning in the series, including their supernatural encounters. Tsukihi tends to the feverish Karen when she comes down with a fever from a supernatural bee, and Karen in turn guards Tsukihi when pursuers are plotting to kill her.

3. Kisugi Sisters (Cat's Eye) Waitresses by day and art thieves by night, Rui, Hitomi, and Ai are highly skilled women on a mission to retrieve their father's lost art collection. Hitomi is both athletic and cunning, often using her police detective boyfriend's connections to get intelligence about a hit. Hitomi does much of the "dirty work," while older sister Rui plans the heists and Ai is in charge of tech and manning the getaway vehicles.

2. Fujibayashi Twins (Clannad) Ryō and Kyō are twins, but otherwise opposites in almost every other respect. However, you can bet that Kyō will go to bat for her sister any day of the week, even at the sacrifice of her own feelings. In fact, both girls are in love with Tomoya but Kyou ignores her feelings to try and set her sister up instead of seeing her as a rival. When both girls realize their feelings for Tomoya aren't going to be returned, they cry together.

1. Yamada Sisters (Binbō Shimai Monogatari) The Yamada Sisters are 15- and 9-years-old, and essentially orphans after their father takes off. The two kids are left to fend for themselves with the elder Kyō taking up odd jobs while attending school and Asu tending to the house and finances. Both girls are completely reliant on one another to survive, and manage to do so when a surprising amount of optimism despite their hardships, including illness and how to eat on a paper girl's wages.
