The List
7 Anime Characters With Killer Hair

by Lynzee Loveridge,

Hair has a long (pun intended) history in cultures around the world, and Japan is no exception. Only women in the upper echelons for society were allowed to wear their hair long while poor classes were required to tie up their hair. Boys were given a specific hairstyle to acknowledge their entry into manhood. Hair itself was a sign of status and power. Add a supernatural element and this meaning becomes literal.

7. Iwai Mushanokouji (The Severing Crime Edge) Iwai's hair is killer by proxy. Her long hair reaches her feet and is nigh invincible except when cut by Kiri Haimura's scissors. The curse of her hair is closely tied with the series' Killing Goods. These items are also cursed with particular abilities after being used by their murderous owners.

6. BOBObo-bo Bo-BOBO (Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo) Bobobo battles for weird hair everywhere against the evil Hair Hunt Troop. His blonde afro is unique enough, but Bobobo's true power lies within his nose. His devastating Hanage Shinken (Fist of the Nose Hair) incapacitates other foes by entering their noses, tying them up, throwing boogers at them, and other nonsensical attacks. If his nose isn't available, Bobobo uses his armpit hair as a back up.

5. Kumadori (One Piece) Kumadori uses Life Return, an all-encompassing power that lets him control every aspect of his body down to the hairs on his head. WIth it, he can extend his already long hair to grasp his opponents, wield his staff, or turn into hands to rapidly jab his enemies. His hair almost takes down Nami if she hadn't skillfully escaped at the last minute.

4. Nenki Mino (Basilisk) The Iga and Kouga ninja clan members all duel one another with their over-the-top powers. One guy is basically an over-sized spider, for example. Nenki Mino has taken control, not only of the hair on his head, but his entire hairy body. He uses it to stab and strangle his opponents. It also acts like a prehensile tail, allowing Nenki to swing through the trees with ease.

3. Jasdevi (D.Gray-man) Jasdevi is the form twins Jasdero and Devit take after the commit double-suicide and merge together. Like Kumadori, Jasdevi has control over his bodily functions and uses that to manipulate his hair into a striking weapon. If the hair is cut off, it acts like a lizard tail and will keep moving when no longer attached.

2. Akiha Tohno (Tsukihime) Akiha's bloodline grants her an ability best described as "hair vampirism." Her "caging hair" power is only visible to those with spiritual sight and looks like strands of her red hair wrapping around her victim and burning them. In actuality, she's sapping their life force. The ability also allows her to animate the dead or inanimate objects.

1. Sunny (Toriko) Of all the characters with Samson-like locks, Toriko's Sunny best lives up to the myth. The individual strands work like a snake's tongue, and are able to detect temperature, pressure, and other stimuli depending on their color. Apparently his dye-job was not an homage to his favorite ice cream flavors. His powerful aura also takes up a terrifying physical form through his hair that can attack enemies. He can also use the strands for more mundane uses. If Sunny can dream it, his hair can create it.
