I think it is as Hentai_JP mentioned; the show functions as a commercial for the DVDs, so the creators can get more money out of their viewers. Hopefully the show doesn't turn into a mindless mess of bouncing breasts and panties, and maybe the plot can be focused on, which I'm optimistically hoping for as I really don't have any expectations for this show. |

Maybe if we were talking nudity, but these are only panties. Bakemonogatari, which is not an Ecchi Harem show, had its female lead walk around in her underwear, and it wasn't censored. Let's face it; panties aren't risqué enough nowadays to get censored, especially in a show like this one. No, you've got to pull off an Air Gear and have full-frontal nudity in the first episode to get people hot and bothered. And I still cannot get over how many maids Teppei now has. Sixty-four (sixty-five including Yu) is ridiculous, even for the mega-rich. And only one of them bothered to go to escort him to school. Actually, shouldn't Yu be in his class, if she's there to watch over him? |

Yuu is in his class if you didn't notice that. I also don't understand your confusion/obsession with blackened panty shots. I already said why I think it was done, and, clearly, those are not shadows. Rewatch first episode if you still don't believe me, they are full of those "shadows" in middle of the bright day. |

Ah, found her. So why didn't she speak up and help him out? Isn't that part of her job? I don't understand why you're picking a fight with me over the panties issue. I'm not obsessed, you are, with telling everyone how this is all a deliberate campaign to censor such relatively mild fanservice as panty-shots, to "save them" for the DVD. The thing is, you have provided no evidence, and it doesn't really seem plausible. I cannot believe I'm saying this, but they are only panty-shots for Christ's sake. Not genitalia, panty-shots. All you have is conjecture, and slandering people when they remark on the flaw in your reasoning. If you were to provide proof, such as an article or story or interview, well that would be something. But you have nothing except your opinion. So how about we leave it at that? |

The scene mentioned earlier where Teppei bumped into Seika isn't the only place panty shots were blacked out, but the other occurrences you really had to watch for to catch. It's annoying, and if I continue to follow this one then I will definitely be upgrading to DVD-based fansubs when they start coming out.
As for the ridiculous number of maids, that's been used in several other anime as symbolic of massive wealth. I am also a bit concerned, but not terribly surprised, by the more bland direction this episode went in, but this was essentially another set-up-and-introduce-characters episode so I'm willing to let the series ride for now. I do like Charlotte, though, and the spoiler[spinning perspective when Teppei accidentally fell on her] was a neat shot. |

So yeah, gimmicky censorship rears its head here, but at least it's not giant bears and bats. Luckily, the "situational fanservice," like Teppei "accicentally" pushing Charlotte down on a desk and the latter playing the role for all it was worth, makes up for the censored pantyshots. Kudos to Teppei for his tactile recognition abilities. As others have said, this was an obligatory introductions episode, but now that Teppei's new home and school life have been established, hopefully things will move along at a more brisk pace. Side observation: too bad Princess Lover is only getting notice from low-grade fansub groups. I've got half a mind to go on a sub extraction and editing spree, especially if/when uncensored sources become available. |

I broke down and decided to watch this today instead of Sunday like I had planned; I couldn't resist. I found this episode to be really funny and I must agree with Hentai in that I love how Teppei isn't your normal male lead and is actually mature. The same can be said for Charlotte because I thought she was going to pull a Naru and start beating his ass when he fell on top of her. Sylvia has all the makings of a tsundere and I'm greatly anticpating her first "tsundere moment" so that I know exactly what kind she'll be.
I thought about Hanayukyo Maid Team as well as soon as Teppei walked through those doors. It's just that I like Yuu more than I did Mariel. Also, the undressing scene where he's half asleep, hilarious. That whole Social Club set up reminds me of a little game/hentai called Discipline. Even Seika reminds of Leona, who isn't very nice towards the protagonist, but I don't think Seika well be as mean as Leona. All in all, it's starting to look more and more like an average harem, but still several notches above the norm. I still like the show because I like harems so that doesn't bug me at all. Like I said before, I just hope that "Teppei's Revenge" doesn't come back in the last few episodes to make show go in a downwards spiral. I mean, we've apparently already ditched it because it wasn't mentioned once this episode. I can only hope more harems like this come out where the main leads aren't shy, immature people who can't deal with the smallest of things. |

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who noticed his reaction was one of recognition. 
And I also thought it was odd that the second ep didn't have an OP or ED in the fansub. Hopefully that will improve with the next one. Anyway, I agree with much of the feeling of the posters here, how well the series started in ep. 1 and seemed to falter a little in ep. 2. One thing I picked up on was how strong of a figure the mother was in ep. 1, hopefully that will mean Teppei was brought up right and won't fall into too many cliches involving poor behavior to the women around him. He seems to have his head screwed on straight so far, with the things he says or asks. (If you don't count spoiler[ noticing the patterns of the pantsu in ep. 2]) We'll see how it goes in ep. 3!

That's a deliberate decision on the part of those particular fansubbers, made for potentially a variety of reasons. Reasons such as avoiding the karaoke or devoting all of the filesize to the new material.* They probably won't change it; don't hold your breath. * Please note that while the episode I downloaded didn't have the OP or ED, I used a different group for the first episode. So I don't know if the same group I used for the second episode did karaoke for the first. I was just saying its a possibility. |

Deliberately hiding the panties has a good effect though. If he was to think of the colors of the panties as we visually see them, then the humor would be a bit bland and obvious. However, if hearing his thoughts of 3 girls blabbering about him and the only thing on his mind are what's under their skirts, then I think it turns the scene into a more comical and memorable one.
In other words, the first reaction a male would be notice the panties and observe quickly the color or type, but the viewer doesn't have that liberty here. The narration in the male character's mind gives the viewer what is really there. |

I was thinking that same thing, actually. At first I was a little bummed by the censoring, but then he started naming off the colors and I thought it added humor because, like you said, it wouldn't be as funny if started pointing out the obvious to us. |

To follow up, I see another group out there re-issued ep. 2, with opening and ending intact. I guess that solves that.

Ill be honest, I didn't finish the first episode because of the censoring. I just had that feeling of "why are they animating these ecchi panty flashes, if they just censor them?" but reading through this thread I think the DVD theory makes a lot of sense.

I am taken back on the censoring fanservice too. Just put it on one of those Japanese cable or satellite channels where they provided uncensored (I especially stress nipples) ecchi fun. I wish he would just choose Charlotte and sleep with her. Too many ecchi/fanservice/harem series have alludes to main loser guy wanting or ending in situations where he might sleep with lead chick but doesn't.

I'm less annoyed at the army of maids and more annoyed at how rich people's homes in anime always seem to have such MASSIVE foyers. I just look at it and think "what a waste of space!"
