Well, masked evil men is mostly a thing in the Gundam series. I have seen like half a dozen of those and they seem to always have a guy with a mask messing things up on way or another.

As for the world, there is still a lot we do not know. The big event that caused the world to be how it is has not been made all that clear. Then we have the Magi and how they function, plus there do seem to be quite a few different types. There was also the big pink crystal that both drifter teams brought back to base to sell for money in episode 1. I assume that the stuff is worth big money since it is used for something.

Is it just me? Am I overreacting some way? Every episode it just feels like I fall more and more for the aesthetic of this show. A pleasure city of lights and sex, with some art deco interior. I can only imagine it as better if the episode didn't feel like it leaned a bit more into not letting sex happen. Letting it be seedy would have been even more fun. And it kind of feels like I am describing Cyberpunk again?

And in my mind going off of Cyberpunk in my head, man I thought the style of the masked/visor guy was fantastic. Just design of him were great, but then they did things like juxtaposed his serious demeanour with obviously being a goofball who didn't even realise that he wasn't about to meet a goddess, but see a prostitute. And then after he was a straight up badass in killing the bad guys, it turned the bit of him and his assistant robot being overly dramatic with a spotlight light like some sort of stage play, so silly that it goes back around to being really good.

It is the sort of stuff that I am finding so good that I am really afraid that it is going to shit itself at some point that it could be embarrassing that I was so into it.

I think that they are going to make sure that the setting/world remain interesting and not shit itself. If only for the game that they will try to sell after the anime is over.

Not sure why, but it makes me very happy to see Dusky really enthusiastic for a series. Maybe because they always rate everything lower than I do, so it's a nice change. Laughing

I also really liked NewSchool Char.

I used to I think rate higher on average, but a mix of trying to have more of a possible range, and growing jaded has lowered a lot of what I might have rated as higher. But sometimes I do really like something, even if most of the time it will either fall apart at the end, or turn out rather obscure, not sure how many thought of Giant Beasts of Ars as the big show earlier in the year.

Well, a few posts back I said I was curious about the pink crystal stuff and we got just that this episode. We also got some more flashy action and Kanata learned a valuable lesson when it comes to being too trusting. I do wonder if Tokio realized the truth and did nothing so that Kanata learned the hard way though. As for the bandit in question, she is the charming ara ara type, so I am sure a certain poster on this forum is very interested in her.

Hard to say. Prior to this episode, if you'd asked me which character was the most likely to do something foolish because of a female voted "most likely to die from a chest cold" I would have said Tokio. Looking back, he hasn't been displaying a whole lot of pragmatic, logical decision making. Last episode, he didn't take part in the fight because he was busy racing around a vice den pursued by his magus for some reason.

But this episode made it seem like half the dumb decisions Tokio makes are just because he gets bored quickly and likes a certain amount of chaos. A "None of us are making it to 40, so we might as well enjoy it: kind of an attitude.

Side note: Every time I read the words "Ara Ara" I flash back to Alicia, the embodiment of stress free sweetness in the Aria anime (she says the phrase a lot) . Made for a weird mental image there for a second.

Well, we got more ara ara and boing boing this week since Claudia showed up way faster again than I expected her to. Now, I know that some/many people get charmed by the boing boing, but getting taken for a fool by the very same person twice in a row is not something to be proud of. Gotta learn your lesson.

Otherwise I loved the episode since it has a bit of everything. Some more details regarding the interesting setting/world, cute moments with Noir and some very hectic chase and fight sequences that looked really good. Claudia seems to be part of the gang now. I also like how they are slowly ramping up with the story, they are making the most of their episode count. Too many 24 episode anime rush into their central story/conflict asap, which often leads to some pacing issues.

Episode 6

Thanks to a recent 2-week holiday visiting family and suffering through crap internet connection, I got backlogged on my anime watching. I have just caught up with this and continue to love it. Ha ha, I wonder which poster smurky turkey was referring to when he predicted somebody would fall for the WONDERFUL, PNEUMATIC CLAUDIA??? I guess it will just remain a mystery for the ages.

Loved seeing the return of Black Mask and his Magus. I didn't realize until a post above but I'm super glad this is a 2-cours. It seems Disney+ leans towards those with titles like Summer Time Rendering, Heaven's Delusion and now this. Good stuff.

Nice to see another "seedy" city. Although at this point there must be some intention of tongue in cheek, seeing as the brothel city was all upper-class gentlemen. And it looked like half the games in casino were things like The Game of Life, Concentration, and I would have presumed old Maide, rather than say roulette and poker. At least we got some butler stripping.

And the black mask guy continues to make me smile. I was laughing when his android girl was hinting at all sorts of complicated storyline, while Noir is completely face value, with it all against a game of Concentration being played in a casino. And then he had to be the mysterious hero to help save the day.

Good that they were able to save Ciel, with her fitting into the trope of the singer in the sort of trope.

I love "Masked Gundam Villain as chunibyou." I tend to find the Bandai Namco stuff to be overly-serious, so "Remove Grandma" was the ultimate relief. I suspect it my get more serious later on, but for now, this is just right.

Another good episode, with this time some action in a gambling den/nest. I like that Kanata is getting better bit by bit and that the duo now also have a special Magus attack. We had nore masked man this week, he apparently always shows up when Kanata has one of his firsts. I am still really vibing with the anime and am loving the setting, it also helps that the episodes are pretty varied.

Sheesh, what's with all the anime treachery lately. We've got Ciel blading Kanata (fun fact: there's a place called Kanata not far from Ottawa, Canada where I lived for many years) in this show and spoiler[The Bureau backstabbing Hyoma and Botan in Malevolent Spirits].

Also, I know I shouldn't obsess over details like this, but really... what's the point of having humans pilot Coffins? The Magus seem more than capable of doing that and better. The idea of having some kind of souped up android help a human pilot a craft that could be fully automated seems lame.
