Wasn't S2 originally going to be released DVD only but was updated to include the blu-ray later on?

Nope. It was solicited as a Blu-ray / DVD combo LE release. With that said, I'm expecting it to get a downgrade (from combo to DVD only).

Even though FUNimation won't/can't say it, this JP BD-Box is pretty much the main reason for their release delay.

There are times I hate this industry.

This is one of them.

@willag:
We know that R1 companies sometimes sell their dubs to other distributors for smaller English markets, so it's not unthinkable that Funimation just sold theirs to the licensor. I don't know how much dubs go for, but if there's royalties involved I don't think Funi's going to be hurting from this deal(and I don't think too many of their target market are going to be willing to shell out Japanese prices).

The licensor owns the dubs. That's why Funimation, Sentai, and Discotek can use all those old dubs on their rescues from other companies, because they negotiated for the rights to use them. Funimation didn't sell it to them, they (the licensor) own it, so they can use it how they want, when they want. I also wouldn't be surprised if there weren't any kind of royalties funneling back to Funi and the actors.

Voice acting is done for an hourly flat rate. None of the actors receive royalties.

Didn't really know where to put this, but Gundam Unicorn 5 just got a solicitation at rightstuf:

That TRSI listing is a US version release, so it doesn't really go with this thread that involves JP, HK, TW, or KR releases. Something like that goes in the Blu-ray thread or a standlaone one (which someone did).

Laughing What a combo-pack!

With Disney taking so long on releasing Totoro on BD it almost convinces me to order this.

I'd love to own EP on BD, too, but not at that price. Besides, although I haven't tried it yet, I'm sure my DVDs will look great on my HDTV.

I've a few questions, because I'm seriously tempted to start buying a few titles from Japan since we'll never get some of them.

First: Where does one go to actually buy blurays? I'm so used to figures, I'm not sure what options I can use elsewhere.

Second: Does the Koihime Musou (all) have subtitles? I can't read Japanese to determine this.

Third: When the list says "Not available", does this include titles currently in pre-order? I ask, because Strike Witches is being released soon on bluray but is in pre-order status, which I'm going to double-dip for. Mmmm.... Sanya in high def. Score. Embarassed

Thanks for helping this clueless one out. Smile

I've used HMV Japan for ordering a blu-ray from Japan before. I know YesAsia sells anime blu-rays and DVD and I've have used them before too. Amazon Japan is another one but I have not ordered anything from them before.

Amazon.co.jp is also a good bet. And they provide the option of translating their pages into English (mostly).
