Actually, the release from Sentai Filmworks after all this time is INDEED because of the sped-up process of the next Utawarerumono releases. However, it's not because of S2, but because of the (very probably) upcoming S3.
You see, it was announced some time ago that the baby that appears in the 1st OVA will play an important role in the 3rd installement of the series, and since it will probably get an anime, Sentai decided to translate the OVAs for that event.

Since Utawarerumono was created with the idea of a trilogy from the beginning, I wouldn't be surprised if those OVAs were made in order to introduce in some way a major important character for the future, since the baby was removed from the TV series.

The only significant change is that Genevieve Simmons takes over for the little-used Sofia Mendez as Touka, although Ms. Simmons does a good enough job of mimicking the original's tone and delivery that it is hard to tell the difference

I think it also should be noted that the change to use Genevieve instead of Sofia is that Sofia unfortunately passed a few years ago.

Oh, I missed that detail! I have confirmed this and will update the review to reflect that.

I rather enjoyed Utawarerumono, and I am still sad that I cannot get the series on bluray. Perhaps getting the OVA's on bluray will have to suffice.
