Damn it, I read that headline and got hyped because I thought a sequel had been announced. But it's just the 2nd half of the first season on Netflix...

^ yeah. This really peeves me when US companies do this. Will just make for confusing conversation in the future if it ever gets a real S2. spoiler[They did leave room for an actual S2 or movie/OVA]

The title should probably be change to "Kuromukuro 2nd half to streamed with english subtitle" or something. I don't know about this so I want to ask, how is the show's reception in Japan? Presumebly quite poor? It did not fare that well on the internet either.

While Netflix and P.A. Works both use the phrase "second season," I understand the headline we had might seem confusing so I've changed it. Thanks for the feedback everyone!

Yes. We knew the show was split-cour from the beginning so the headline does give the wrong impression... Edit; headline corrected by Crystalyn.

Don't know about Japan but my gut feeling says it didn't fare too well. Personally gave up this in the middle of the first cour. Not surprised if sales numbers won't even make the list later this month when the first volume is released.
Unusually it will be released in quarter-cour boxes instead of singles though.

What exactly were Netflix thinking waiting for the airing to complete before having their version up? Most anime watchers would have watched/dropped it by then and not sure the show itself appeals that much to the casual Netflix binger...

I don't hate Kuromukuro but never liked it either, just sad to see the reception.

I personally really enjoy Kuromukuro and am looking forward to its second half (although, it should be called "Black Relic" in English. Sheesh, that title is awkward!) The sense of fun and humor just grabbed me from ep 1. If its not doing well, that's really too bad. I don't think it's the quality of the show itself, but perhaps the saturation of the anime market and Netflix treatment of the title is not helping--long wait, no dub, barely any marketing.

"Split cour" refers to a show that has a gap (normally one cour) between two planned halves. While Netflix has 3 months between the two blocks it streams, the show itself aired weekly across its 6 month run.

And what do you mean by low score anyway? from what i check while it isn't super high score, it's not low too.

Also i'm not sure why you guys still depend a show success or not(in business way) by disc sales, if you look at Gonzo's financial report, you will find out while their show in last year had poor disc sales, but they end up earn a lot money thanks to streaming rights, so yeah, disc sales isn't that matter in this day any more, especially for PA Works, i mean if it's that matters, PA Works should be closed at few years ago since most of their show doesn't sell well, but hey they even moved to way bigger HQ at few months ago lol. As for Kuromukuro, i can see Netflix plus Toyama gov's money is enough to make this show more than break even.

Also they are not the studio that like to stay "comfy zone" or even think they should have comfy zone at all, so i can see they will keep challenge genre that they never done before, and that's why i like PA Works.

Btw i'm pretty sure Kuromukuro is not PA Works "first original" since they did many original before this show.
