Huh, interesting. The easiest way to make a location in a work of fiction feel authentic, of course, is to model it after a real-life place, and a place where a creator grew up is in turn the easiest way to do THAT. Write what you know.

If this anime catches on, I expect to see at least one store in this city put up posters attracting fans of Magical Girl Raising Project. I wonder if at least one person in that city has recognized their house or workplace in this anime.

Really cool. I've been interested in this sort of thing since I saw Garden of Words.

I lived near Jōetsu city for several years and recognized some of the backgrounds immediately, especially Takada castle and the train station.
Jōetsu is a nice place to live. It's rather rural compared to cities in the Kanto area and has some severe snow falling in mid-winter, but the nearby sea and mountain regions are both quite nice. Jōetsu is also the hometown of Yumekui Merry's manga author Yoshitaka Ushiki. He uses the city for some of his backgrounds. The anime however takes place in Kamakura.

As Magical Girl Raising Project's second episode, I couldn't recognize any background yet. I wish the show wouldn't start using some generic backgrounds and instead continued to incorporate inspired backgrounds from Jōetsu.

The design of Takada Station is a marvelous sight to behold. Plus, the greens of Jōetsu University seem like a nice place to relax after grinding through a session. Smile
