I love the Omamori Himari manga and have read it at least three times, so I really do want the anime.
The only thing that is stopping me is the lack of a dub.

I definitely can enjoy a subtitled anime if there is no dub, but I much prefer a dub.

Right now I am going to wait. There is a very slim chance that the show might be successful enough for Funimation to dub it and release it again.
If so I will buy it then. If not there will probably be a lot of copies of this release still available.
As much as I want this I do not really feel any urgency.

I will search for a they are my noble masters review, just like omamori himari is an ok hrem, nothing particularly outstanding about it unless you are a fan of the genre and care of it's writer. well, I said it had nothing particularly outstanding, but actually as far as generic/ok harems go, this one might be the only one that does not fall falt on it's face when it gets serious for it's last arc.

I was kind of on the fence about this title until I read this review. Thanks for the analysis, Paul. I can usually tolerate mediocre harem comedies if I really like one or two specific characters, but I think I will move this one down a few slots on my wish list for the moment.

And @Samson, I really want to listen to the 'End of the Heartache' now. Best damn thing to come out of that crappy Resident Evil sequel. Very nice shelves, and I was also unaware that the limited Boobies addition box was so big!

Even if you cut it some slack for being seven years old, Omamori Himari is thoroughly ordinary from a technical standpoint.

Jaw dropping, isn't it? This is exactly the sort of thing I was thinking when I stuck my copy of Haruhi Suzumiya in my BD player.

What am I thinking? That's ten years old, this guy's completely right. Wait, though 10 is greater, seven is more recent! Man, this is confusing, it's almost as if a blanket technical description has no merit!

{sigh}

Animation production ZEXCS? Their anime production is [skims through produced titles like Chu Bra and Da Capo] average at best [stops at Flowers of Evil]

{double sigh}

Wasn´t Studio Deen in charge of Flowers of Evil?

The only time the series really loses me is when it falls into the all-too-common trap of trying to get serious in its last few episodes. Actual bad guys show up, people's lives are in danger, and the show asks the audience to genuinely care about whether or not Yuuto can learn to use his powers.

This is a BIG error in some harem battle series. Trying to hook you with the (awfully bad) comedy and characters at first, then in the last few episodes, throw all of that out of the window and try to care enough of the serious plot to see if a second season, if it happens, is interesting as a serious show. By the point it get serious, only 30 people are watching the show. Seriously, it´s better not to try that.

When FUNimation releases an anime sub-only,it doesn't get a dub.

Studio DEEN = 3D Graphics, ZEXCS = Animation Production. ...though, knowing the work in question, who knows who had the bigger task?...

It was not too long ago that Funimation never released a show without a dub.

Things change.

I am not counting on it happening, just considering it as a possibility.

I hope Animatsu pick up Angelic Layer for the UK, I'm trying to build a BONES collection. And speaking of early BONES shows, will anyone ever pick up Hiwou War Chronicles?

I have to agree with the review's assessment. Omamori Himari is pretty much a cookie cutter harem all the way through. But I still like it. Despite being predictable it's still entertaining. I don't always want to feel suspense or emotional, sometimes I just want to watch the pretty colors and zone out. Omamori Himari is one of my "comfort food" anime. It has little nutritional value and it's probably not good for me. But it somehow calms and soothes me.

While the DVD for Omamori Himari was released over a month ago, it still appears to be stuck in some type of streaming limbo. Funimation still has only the initial 2 episodes that were posted prior to the home video release.

At least that's better than result for another sub-only series, Good Luck! Ninomiya-kun, which about 3 weeks after the DVD release has no episodes available for streaming.

While I expect the partnership with CR that sees them handling subtitled streams for most shows might have something to do with this, the pattern thus far is somewhat concerning.

I still maintain that Angelic Layer has one of the best theme songs ever. I love it. It's just so perky and happy.

I enjoyed this when I first saw it and the manga's sitting waiting to be read, but personally I'm waiting for a BD release. So hopefully a dubbed BD will eventually come out.

If it never does, maybe I'll pick up the DVD on clearance =/

Yeah, Angelic Layer has some great music. I hope we get a review of this, I'd love to know if it's worth the upgrade.
