Very interesting -- I'm gonna have to add some books to my "Must-Read" list!

It would be great if you, Anime News Network, would report regularly on these rankings. Light novels are even more difficult to pick than manga. At least in the case of manga you can tell something from the art right away.

Oh yeah Goblin Slayer. I saw the review up on ANN a while ago,but I've heard some mixed reviews from my peers, that it's kind of a bait-and-switch story. I wait to see if it gets an anime.

Oh wow, I didn't know that Index was shunned so heavily by collaborators. That makes its ranking all the more impressive. I thought this article would note (particularly after reading the snippet about 3 years of Oregairu on top of the rankings) just how completely dominant the two main Index characters have been. Touma has never been outside of the top 3 in 10 years and Misaka has only not placed first a single time in the past 8 years.

The article says:
Quote:
If you're looking for future light novel hits or just an entertaining read, then, be sure to check out the KonoRano rankings!

That is a good idea. I am a bit disappointed though that I had to use Google to find a Wiki page where I could do that.

Is there no official translation of these lists?

In any case, thanks for the article.
It was very interesting and informative.

Is there a link? Or wait, the (pretty interesting) article says this list is a published book. So it's a printed list in Japanese then? Is there an English translation of the list published?

They were posted on Anime News Network about a month ago.

It's Miki's fault Laughing
I do understand, though, that they want to give more attention to lesser known, newer titles. Index has been around for very very long and has a very dedicated fanbase already.

Thank you. This is definitely better than that Wiki page that I found.
This is just the current list though so I still need the Wiki page for the previous lists.

Yes it's a light novel guide book in Japanese, and no it's not published in English. There was a point I wish it were, because it takes a bit of effort to find the complete list (it runs up to 60 titles). I used to be curious to see how my favorite LN fared in the rankings every year, so I had to hunt for the list on Japanese and Chinese blogs. Razz

If you're interested in the previous year's rankings, myanimelist.net have them since 2014 with lots of discussion from their light novel club. For even older years, baka-tsuki is the only place I know that discusses them (as far back as 2008, AFAIK), being one of the portals for western light novel fans before the boom in LN localization.

I'm glad that recently ANN is also giving us the kono sugoi as well as the oricon weekly manga and light novel rankings. Even if placing high does not necessarily equate to "quality", these rankings still help us keep track of the titles that are currently popular in the LN and manga world.

Great article, I missed the news story (thanks for linking that BodaciousSpacePirate) and very informative.

Nice to see Overlord at the top rank, hopefully the movie will be successful and lead to another season =D

There is no bait on GS: a guy with a trauma wants to kill Goblins because they're evil, he kills them, people join him to kill more goblins, they want to make to get better, he does but still keeps killing goblins, other monsters don't let him kill goblins, he kills them, now he can keep killing goblins.

There is no bait there.

Actually that's not a good thing. Putting the large number of books released so far aside the New Testament has been suffering of its writing being over all the place with more downs than ups which is one of the reasons why it has a dramatical and alarming decrease on sales.

Just a one shot made for cash grab, isn't a series.
